How have technological develoments impacted the harp seals?
1) global warming is a threat to their ice floes. 2) In Canada technological advances mean they’re hunted more humanely now than ever. 3) increased inshore activity causes more harp seal/ human interactions. Harp seals have attached humans who were offering food or simply in their space. People forget these animals can be highly aggressive and when developments build up closer to their habitat occasionally there are sad reminders of just how wild wildlife is. 4) Better technology in fishing practices is helping reduce all bycatch ( Seals, whales, sharks, sea turtles and other wild life can be saved this way.
