How have other Edge Hill students gained experience & or jobs that have never been advertised?
A history student wanted to be a sports reporter – in his first year he persistently called at his local radio station asking for work experience – eventually they gave in and let him answer the phone, make tea, tidy up, shadowed reporters, wrote articles for them to assess etc. By third year they were paying him for work, gave him references for first graduate job as a sports researcher for a TV programme, and eventually became Sports editor at a radio station A media student wanted radio work experience – with her letter asking for work experience she included a radio interview she had made by interviewing staff and students about their thoughts on the Iraq situation. The radio station was delighted with her initiative. They get so many letters for work experience that they ask applicants to complete a task. Fifty per cent of students do not complete the task – separates out those who have the commitment to the work. Our student got the work experience without doing the task because
