How have environmental issues been addressed?
Air quality and emission monitoring will be undertaken regularly as part of plant operations, ensuring the mill meets required standards. It is anticipated that while the majority of the traffic is local from the steel plant to the proposed mill, there will also be a significant amount of truck movement to customers outside the Port Kembla area. This traffic will tavel up Flinders Street to Five Island Road and has been incorporated into the Port Kembla Outer Harbour Development Application. The use of conveyers to transport materials from ships to the plants will help minimise dust and truck movement in the local area. We also are engaging our own traffic consultant to gain clarity on any transport impacts from the project and will continue to explore options of utilising rail as an alternative to road-transport.
