How has the scenery evolved?
Four generations of scenery have shipped with various V6.x-V7.x versions: • V6.00-V6.06: This scenery is equivalent in format and detail to the V5 scenery, except that the terrain grid was increased to 150×200 elevation points per square degree. Basic scenery shipped with the X-Plane 6.00 CD covered only the continental US. Three additional CDs covered most of the rest of the world. • V6.10-V6.13: The second generation scenery was a complete remake of the texture design and incorporated land use data, highways, railroads, and power lines. (See the detailed history page.) Scenery for the entire world between 60 degrees north and 60 degrees south was available on four CDs. Although the textures were much improved, there were some serious accuracy problems with coastlines and many rivers were too wide. • V6.14-V6.40: The third generation scenery is simply a remake of the second generation with the coastlines and major rivers corrected using vector shoreline data.
