How has the game changed since you’ve been covering it?
RAND: The cable channels and web sites have made news far more available and coverage more competitive. When I was a Chiefs beat reporter from 1979-80, I broke virtually every news story on my beat. That is probably no longer possible in an era when ESPN.com employs three exceptional full-time NFL reporters and gets the news on line 16 to 20 hours before the next morning newspaper is delivered.
