How has the European Imperialism negatively impacted the African continent?

0

The main problem caused by imperialism in Africa is in the way the countries were set up. Their infrastructure and territories were designed mainly for the export of crops and raw materials, as part of an empire, rather than as stand alone economies. In all fairness, some of the imperial powers did make efforts to alleviate those effects to prepare the countries for independence. But as was often the case, the new leaders of those countries just abused it, and never worked to maintain such infrastructures. Many of the countries borders have also brought rival or enemy tribes under one nation. Such as the Tutsi and Hutu, in Rwanda. Because the African countries tend to be artificial imperial creations, some Africans adhere to tribal loyalties, rather than national loyalties. Or atleast see their own tribe as the true citizens of that nation. It is inaccurate to say that the imperialists took all of Africa’s natural resources. In all honesty it’s a bit of a shortcut to thinking to blame
