How has the District responded to the budget short falls thus far?

The District has made significant cuts in areas that do not jeopardize the educational experience of our students. Between 2009-2011, $2.5 million was cut from the budget and $1.8 million more in cuts are planned for 2011-12, regardless of the outcome of the referendum. This $4.3 million in cuts equals almost 10% of the 2011-2012 operating budget of $48 million. Reductions in special education staff account for more than $1 million. Delayed capital purchases and supplies (including purchased services) each account for an additional $800,000. The remainder comes from student programs, building custodians and transportation staff, increased student and user fees, and administrative staff and expenses.
