How has the addition of a Sixth College at UCSD affected the admission process?
Sixth College is the newest college on campus and it’s open for the first two years to freshmen only. We’re really pleased that Sixth received roughly 4,000 applications, and their goal is to enroll 330 students. My feeling is that Sixth College will enjoy a very strong opening year. We’re delighted to provide a new college choice for entering freshmen. What programs and activities does UCSD have planned for its newly admitted freshmen and transfers? We encourage newly admitted students and their families to visit the campus. That’s the best way to determine if it’s a good match for them. For freshmen, we’ve scheduled Admit Day on April 13 (see page 3), with a series of seminars, programs, campus tours and activities at the six colleges. Students will have an opportunity to talk with department advisers and participate in presentations by faculty to learn about research opportunities and academic expectations.
