It has it’s pros and cons. Technological advances over the last couple of decades have enabled us to keep in touch with one another in more ways than ever thought possible, aided us in the medical and military fields, and made life easier. However, there are a few drawbacks to this. As technology advances and becomes more accessible, the dependency on technology has taken a sharp increase. I guess you could say that the accessibility to technology is proportional to how much people overly rely on it. By people, I mean those who are 30 and younger. I’m sure you could understand why. I also think that it’s contributing to social isolation, so to speak. I mean, people even rarely talk on the phone and would rather communicate through text in one or more of it’s various forms.

Technology has made it so that we live isolated lives, with televisions peering into our living rooms educating our children and ourselves about what it means to ‘fit in.’ Fitting in (or being PART of a community/culture) has become about what you can afford rather then what you do. Even participation in things has become about the amount you pay to participate in that activity. And why? Because media has shoved it down our throats that in order to be part of something you have to ‘own’ its badges. Culture isn’t what movies a certain demographic watches, what clothes you buy from the newest coolest store, what music you listen to. Somehow technology has made it so that advertisements are so prevalent we believe you can ‘buy’ a lifestyle. Media has made it so that we don’t have face-to-face communication.
