How has Status Quo evolved as a live band?
We’ve got better and better as the years have gone on. We’ve spent all of our time in each decade on the road. In the late sixties we were this psychedelic band who wanted to be a rock band – or vice versa, as this rock band who were trying hard to be a psychedelic band. In the seventies we rediscovered ourselves and did what our audiences wanted us to do. In the eighties we got a bit lost and tried to be these new romantics, but we could never be like that, a lot of people tried to change the sound of the band and it wasn’t right. That caused a lot of upheaval within the band. When we put a new layout to the band with a bass guitarist and drummer it all started to fall into place again. I think it’s taken twenty years to really get us back to what we are supposed to be. I honestly believe that the band is playing and performing better right now than it has ever done. It just feels so urgent on stage right now, and it’s fun and the audiences are great and it’s quite fantastic. I find i
