Horses dying is a horrible subject and not the kind of statistics the industry wanted to talk about, so the records weren’t very well kept. Part of the commitment to safety is a commitment to transparency and honesty in record keeping. Given that caveat, there is no question the last three years have been the safest in Keeneland’s history. We’ve had three straight April race meets without a fatality, and that’s unprecedented.
