How has my cat got worms?
Nope, those are TAPEWORMS. The ‘flat’ part is the telltale sign. Tape worms are segmented worms that live in the intestines. They reproduce by the segments breaking off and passing in the pet’s stool. The eggs are encased in the segment. The case dries up and gets ingested by another animal, usually a mouse, etc… The mouse carries fleas, which are a part of the life cycle of tapeworms. If a cat has caught a mouse and eaten it, ALONG with the fleas the mouse is carrying, the cat can get tapeworms. ROUNDWORMS on the other hand, look like spaghetti. They are 4 or more inches long and worm shaped – round, NOT FLAT. I would take a fecal sample in to the vet and have it checked for parasites. There can be more than one type of worm in the gut. Tapeworms usually require 1 worming, but the other types of worms require 2 or more treatments.
