How has Modern Hoopdance developed?
Hooping has made its way “back around” into popular culture, with new momentum and a new “spin”; Hoopdance incorporates elements of belly dance, hip-hop, and rhythmic gymnastics. We at Hoopnotica® can trace our collective hooping experience back to one individual, and so we credit Anah “Hoopalicious” as the “Mother of Modern Hoopdance”. She was featured on “America’s Got Talent”, and is an amazing performer. Other performers who are noteworthy include KJ, who can be seen “fire hooping” in a Justin Timberlake video, and Karis who was recently featured in a Scissor Sisters video. To talk about Hoopdance without mentioning the band “the String Cheese Incident”, would be unfortunate. The band’s love of Hoopdance inspires them to throw hoops out into the audience every time they perform, inviting concert goers to Hoopdance to their music.
