How has Jazz influenced the Music of the 20th Century?

Well, here is my take: Jazz is the first genre to go in and adapt other genres. When Jazz started to evolve from ragtime to big band to bebop, fans of other types of music started to take notice. Artists like Miles Davis, who spent his career evolving his sound and style, became a staple in the invention of fusion, and acid jazz which ultimately changed rock, R&B, Funk, and other types of music. Davis, Herbie Hancock, Jaco Pastorious, Ray Charles and many other jazz musicians help start the trend of cross-compilations…..playing on albums of artists who are not jazz artists.
