How has flow regime changed in Avon River?
Change in Flow Regimes: The Gippsland Plains are topographically uniform and little variation is experienced in climatic conditions. The annual rainfall in the Avon River SWMA increases gradually from the south to north, ranging from 600 to 700 mm. An estimated mean annual flow of 85,100 GL is generated in the upper catchment above Valencia Creek confluence, increasing to 195,500 ML near Stratford. 35% of the mean annual flow is generated during spring. The highest flow period extends from September through to November. March is the lowest flow month, with total flows representing 2% of the average annual flow The flow pattern of the river remains relatively unchanged from natural as there are no major in-stream storages regulating flow. The streams of the Avon River SWMA are unregulated, with no major storages to control flows.
