How has bathroom design changed over the last decade?
It was about ten years ago that designers started to look at the bathroom. Starck’s first range for Duravit was released in 1994. Since then many designers have explored different possibilites but the technology and the elements of the bathroom have always remained the same. We need to start from another point of view and start relating to materials and technology. Where do you see it going? More than any other room in the house the bathroom has to appeal to both sides of your personality. On the one hand it needs to be about individual feeling and appeal to your senses – you really take your time in a nice bathroom. But on the other hand you also need something that is very practical, that will cater to lots of people, work when you’re in a hurry and not let you down. Ultimately I want my bathroom to combine natural feeling with very sophisticated technology. What inspired your own collection for Alessi?
