How hard was it to get all the celebrities in the film, like Bono and Johnny Depp?
JT: It was actually very easy because everyone knew or loved Joe. I think that Johnny Depp, in his last performance in the “Pirates” movies, looked a little bit like Joe! Joe was a magic man in the way that he unlocked doors and met incredible people, big stars, and normal people too. The fire in the film is a great symbol of an “equalizer”. I meant that with Joe, and in life, everyone is about the same, whether they are a star or not. And around a fire place, when sparks are flying all around, we all look alike. Every night, Joe was celebrating life, wherever he was. He could improvise a get-together and sing and play the guitar all night long. And this is how sometimes he would meet famous people who would join him, attracted by his love and simplicity, and honesty. EI: Ultimately, what do you want people to get from this film…to remember from Joe Strummer?
