How hard was being a single teenage parent in showbusiness?
I don’t advise it. I stopped being a teenager at 16. I’m living my teenagehood now. I was taught to live up to your responsibility. Deni (now a singer) taught me to be selfless, caring, sharing and loving, understanding. I’m sure people say you look like sisters. Are you the best of friends? No, Deni is not my friend. She is my daughter. Your friend can tell you get f—ed. My daughter would never speak to me like that. Children need boundaries. I don’t want to be doing stuff with Deni where you can’t work out the line. Hines says she worked so hard in her career that she didn’t meet anyone. “I was living the road.” It was only during the recent Long Way to the Top nostalgia tour that she “got to hang out with my buddies. I love Russell Morris, Col Joye, Little Patti. We all supported each other incredibly. I learnt about camaraderie on that tour.” When the Jamaican-born singer arrived here aged 16, alone and unwittingly pregnant, she would have found a very white world. Alienating? Sh
