How hard is it to rent a car in Europe, as an American?
While you are making your flight reservations make one also for a car to be waiting for you, I can’t remember which airline I used but I was able to reserve a car. All you needed was a major credit card. You can also reserve one through avis or other major rental, I know Avis is also available in Germany! Then visit triple A get yourself an international drivers license for Europe it will cost only a few dollars I think $15 might be more now, also ask if they have a pamphlet on driving here the more you know the safer it will be for you! In any case upon arriving and driving you will notice that the speed of the passing cars will raise your hair the limits are higher than your used too. You will be traveling at 65mph and cars will pass you like your just sitting there. I advise caution for your first road trip!
