How hard is it to customize XBRL GL?
There is a document published with the XBRL GL files (http://www.xbrl.org/GLFiles) with instructions on how to customize XBRL GL; the document is the Global Ledger Framework Taxonomy Technical Architecture (http://www.xbrl.org/int/gl/2007-04-17/GLTFTA-REC-2007-04-17.rtf). However, changes to XBRL GL would mean that applications developed around the RECOMMENDED XBRL GL files would not necessarily be able to recognize these files. In addition, our experience is that many attempts to customize XBRL GL come from a lack of familiarity with XBRL GL rather than a lack of representational power. We would therefore encourage implementers to contact us (with whatever level of sensitivity necessary expressed) to both make sure that customization is indeed necessary and that feedback to the XBRL GL group in true needs for expansion is provided.
