How hard is Finite Math in comparison to College Algebra (basic)?
A 100-level “Finite Math” course will be something of a survey of everything that doesn’t involve calculus, which can be a lot of topics. These topics can include statistics and probability (not intuitive for people new to the subject), matrix algebra (complicated), combinatorics (fancy counting, which can be confusing), linear optimization (more matrix algebra), symbolic logic (either you get it or you don’t), and mathematical modeling (lots of fun, really). All college level math classes are hard unless you “get” math (i.e. you’ve done enough math that your brain has gotten used to it and can provide you the steps with minimal input from your conscious mind. Yes, this is really how mathematicians do math. No, there is no easy way of achieving this level of proficiency) so the best thing to do is find a few people to study with and try to enjoy what you’re doing.
