How great is the Halo story?
I absolutely Loved The Halo Story. As far as my predecessors comment, it is a common theme in Sci-fi where the humans fight for survival, the super advanced aliens try to conquer them, and there is a parasitic life form bent on universal destruction, oh yeah and the mysterious species to create all of these. (Similar to Starcraft) If you want to learn more about the series, I suguest getting the novels: Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx (my fav), and Contact Harvest. I believe they are coming out with more as well. Also, Halo Wars will contain prelude info to the series as an RTS game. The Halo graphic novel, and Halo: Uprising Comic books were also fantastic. Wizkids has a game called Action Clix: Halo which is also very fun. For a fan who has played 1 & 2, although I do not own them, and is waiting to play 3 I love the universe.
