How good is the camera image?
The current camera is only so-so. (See sample video actually recorded from it.) You do get some serious noise. You need to tune in the signal on the receiver with a nob and then not touch it. The radio signal to the car’s steering and throttle interfere with the camera’s signal so I got a long wire and put the receiver about 20ft away from the control interface radio. There are new cameras and receivers that use spread spectrum technology and should be much better and not subject to the interference problems. I’m going to get one of those some day. The camera also distorts the image around the edges. This bothers me, but as long as its consitent, the neural network “doesn’t care.” The camera is black and white. Using a color camera would be fun, but would not help the network. What would be great would be to have 2 cameras on the car and used both signals. The neural network should “learn” something like depth perception.
