How frequently are the speeds updated?
The speeds are updated every minute, and the page is set to reload automatically every two minutes (this feature required a browser that supports reloading, e.g. Netscape). The speeds do not change that frequently, so updating the data every two minutes should satisfy the needs of the typical user. • Where do the data come from? The data come from the Long Island VTIP/INFORM System. • What does it mean when portions of highway are colored white? A white segment means that there is no current speed data for that portion of highway. There are two possible reasons for this: the INFORM system does not (yet) extend to that roadway, or that the system is temporarily down for that particular section of roadway. This occurs often during roadway construction, which can damage the speed detectors, or the communications network. In these situations, it may take a while before NYSDOT can repair the problem.
