How frequent are relapses in depression?
The risk of relapse depends on the number of episodes of illness: 5 out of 10 patients have relapsed after the first episode, but the risk increased 7 and 10 patients have relapsed after the second episode, while 9 out of 10 patients have relapsed after the third episode. If a patient recovers, is likely to have a relapse 1 year after the end of therapy. If a patient improves but does not cure or stop therapy earlier than intended by the doctor, is likely to have a relapse after 100 days.
