How flexible will the skill system be, and will there be any penalties associated with training in multiple skills?

Ryzom’s skill tree gives the benefit of flexibility to veteran players, while still allowing newcomers to be effective. Once a skill has been learned, it can never be forgotten, and there are no penalties for training in multiple skills as opposed to specializing in just one. The more skills you learn, the more options you will have available to you. In a level/class based game, players will have to eventually stop advancing. In Ryzom, however, once a player specializes completely in a particular branch, he can then simply pick up another skill or branch and specialize in it, thereby allowing him to be effective in a larger range of situations.
