How ferocious of a martial art is the * 5-Animals Kung Fu * ?
The five animals are usually seen in Chinese southern martial arts (such as Choy Li Fut). The five animals are traditionally the tiger, crane, leopard, snake, and dragon (the dragon being a mythical creature). Some systems will teach different animal styles as part of the five mentioned such as panther and deer. Each different animal has a different characteristic that is trained. The tiger focuses on power, crane on balance, panther on speed, snake on flexibility and agility, and the dragon focuses on internal power. Some teachers will teach “five animals style” kung fu but usually it is encompassed in another style. Five animal style techniques are usually reserved for more advanced techniques (with the dragon being the most advance technique). Many kung fu styles also exist for each of the animals listed above. A lot of Karate schools also teach a white crane as an advanced technique. This is probably a result of training in China as most Sensei’s call their Crane technique kung fu.
