This is a historic era, and not just for China. As the nation grows into a legitimate world power, it is perhaps the most interesting time to see the effects first hand. Dalian is no exception to these sweeping changes. Considered the best example of modern Chinese city, Dalian is fair representation for the country and its direction of development. It is one thing to read about the opening up of a country, another to see it with your own eyes. Not since Japan opened up to the West in the 1870s has any country gone though such a rapid drive to modernize. History is in the making now in China, and Dalian is one of the major cities at its center.
