The total process takes about one to two seconds. From acquiring the image, transforming the image data from analog to digital format then it proceeds to compare and identify. This process takes less than one second. The bulk of time spent on acquiring the characteristics of the fingerprint itself. If it adds the time to retrieve the image, which means those with huge database need more time for comparison, so the actual fingerprint identification speed is limited to the central processor speed of the computer itself.
