How far was the Korea war a military and political success for the USA?
That would depend on the perspective from which you view the results. If you compare the conflict with Vietnam, it was a success. If you compare it with Iraq, it was a failure. We are still there to keep the two sides from entering back into all out war. Based on the liberal viewpoint of an exit strategy, it was a failure, but they never mention that concerning Korea, it was a Democrat venture that put us there just as was the Vietnam war. As stated, it depends on who you ask. On the plus side, it has given us a presence in the area, on the negative, we have spent billions to stay there. Despite the exit strategy argument by the libs, there are many more factors that must be considered to determine success on any military exercise. It is not just how quick you can leave, but what you have accomplished while there. Afghanistan will be a long term stay if we do our job, but will be a failure if we leave too soon.
