How far off is the possibility of a Sysop?
The Sysop Scenario is hypothetical and may never occur. If it is going to occur it will be preceded by a superintelligence, which would likely be the product of a successful seed AI. (A seed AIs development into superintelligence might be measured in hours, weeks, or years.) How many years remain before the launch of a successful seed AI depends on who you ask, but most who follow the field predict not less than a few years and not more than a few decades.
