How far has the country come in terms of reconciliation since the end of apartheid?
We are trying. By far, a large majority is learning to work together but it is a minority of bitter and undisciplined people who still remain racist and cause problems to the extent that they can break up the fragile thread that binds the African people with the other race groups. It is important that we continue to work and step up our own programmes so that their destructive tendencies do not affect us. What parallels do you draw between the treatment of black Africans during apartheid and Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians? Do you equate Zionism with apartheid?
