How far back do the birth register census records in Dublin go..?
Genealogical research in Ireland can be difficult because so many records were destroyed in a fire in the General Register Office in Dublin in 1922 during the Irish Civil War. Most of the census returns were lost, except those for 1901 and 1911 which are in process of being put online and can be searched here:- http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy… A census entry will contain details of every person who was in the household on census night, giving name, age, marital status, relationship to head of household, occupation, and place of birth. The 1901 census provides details about the condition of the dwelling, and the religious denomination of each resident. The 1911 census also says how long women had been married, and the number of children born.
