How extensive are CHS refining and fuels businesses?
As the nation’s largest cooperative refiner, CHS produces fuels and lubricants for marketing under the Cenex brand as well as for other businesses. CHS also ranks as the third largest U.S. propane retailer. Cenex fuels are sold at nearly 1,600 retail outlets. With more than 1,000 branded convenience stores, the Cenex® chain is among the 20 largest in the United States, and the company is the nation’s fifth largest propane retailer. CHS owns and operates a 55,000-barrel-per-day refinery at Laurel, Mont., and maintains 74.5 percent ownership in the National Cooperative Refinery Association’s 85,000-barrel-per-day refinery at McPherson, Kan. CHS also operates 1,200 miles of crude and product pipelines and eight terminals.
