How experienced are the teachers?
Our teachers are fluent speakers with high levels of knowledge of Latin American cultures, languages and politics. Marilene Barros (Portuguese teacher) has been teaching Portuguese & Spanish languages and Political Science at the university level for the past five years. Her education is in Global Studies, BA, Political Science, MA and expected PhD 2012 in History. She also has a certificate in Applied Linguistics from the University of California Santa Barbara. Gustavo Furtado (Spanish teacher) has been teaching Spanish for the past ten years in a variety of capacities, most recently at Cornell University (since 2008). He is currently pursuing a PhD in Romance Studies at Cornell where he studies 20th century Latin American literature and film. Gustavo is particularly interested in pursuing comparative studies that link the culture of Brazil and Hispanic America.
