How energy-intensive is the construction and operation of wind farms?
• Wind compares favorably to traditional power sources when considering the life cycle of an entire operation. The life cycle of a traditional power plant involves energy-intensive activities, from construction, to mining and transport of fuel, to decommissioning. For wind farms, life cyle CO2 emissions per unit of power are about 1% of that for coal plants and about 2% of that for natural gas facilities.
