How efficient are GHP systems?
The stable temperature a few feet beneath the earth’s surface allows the GSHP systems to be highly efficient. Conventional systems exchange heat with the ambient air. The ground beneath the earth’s surface is warmer than the ambient air during the winter, cooler than the air during the winter. This enables the heat pump to provide up to six times the amount of energy it uses for heating and cooling, meaning for every kilowatt the heat pump uses it can supply up to six kilowatts of heating and cooling power. The total efficiency of the GHP system can be anywhere from 300-600%, and they use 25-50% less energy than conventional systems. This reduces the amount of energy used by the system, which in turn drastically reduces your utilities bill.
