How effective was John as King of England?

0

As a king with absolute power he was not very effective. He stole the throne from his brither, Richard, which wasn’t agood start. He went to to seriously upset all of the nobles in the Kingdom which meant he was effectively unable to govern. He ended up by trying to do a runner and in the process lost the crown jewels. Not a good reign by any standards. On another note it was due to his actions that the nobles created and forced him to sign the Magna Carta and that is the basis for our current constitution and legal system. It is also the closest that the UK will ever get to a bill of rights. So it could be argued that John being king was one of the best things that ever happened to the UK.
