How effective is the Menactra® vaccine against meningococcal infections?
• The effectiveness of Menactra® depends on the age of the person getting the vaccine. • Menactra® is most effective when given to children aged 11 – 18 years. • When Menactra® is given according to the recommendations, it protects: • 73% – 92% of people against group C meningococcal infections • 80% – 92% of people against group A meningococcal infections • 57% – 81% of people against group Y meningococcal infections • 89% – 97% of people against group W-135 meningococcal infections • It is not currently known how long protection against these 4 types of meningococcal infection will last after immunization with Menactra®. • There is another vaccine that protects against meningococcal groups A, C, Y and W-135 infections. • This vaccine (Menomune®) can be used for travellers, for people over 55 years of age, and for people who cannot receive Menactra®. • Another vaccine, the Men-C conjugate vaccine, helps protect people from serious meningococcal group C infections. • More than 90% of p
