How effective is the HPV vaccine in preventing the disease?
The HPV vaccine is a breakthrough in cervical cancer prevention. It is close to 100 per cent effective in protecting against four types of HPV, two of which are classified as high risk as they are responsible for about 70 per cent of cervical cancer cases. Regular cervical cancer screening, combined with the HPV vaccine, provides the best protection against cervical cancer.
