How Effective is the Cloze Technique in the Measurement of Reading Comprehension?
An examination of the cloze technique as a measurement of comprehension reveals that the technique has the potential to measure those aspects of comprehension that may yet be unidentified. This article reviews the unique qualities of the cloze as a research tool, as a teaching tool, and as a readability procedure.
