How effective is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy works. More specifically, it worked for me. My story (in brief): Years ago I developed a phobia about driving over high bridges. One in particular. I started having a hard time driving my car over this long bridge and soon I began to dread doing so. That’s when I turned to a therapist who uses hypnosis and sure enough, after 3 sessions I no longer felt terrified in the bridge situation. I deliberately tried to “feel” something as I got on the bridge. But nothing happened. No adverse reaction. To be clear: success depends largely on your openness to the treatment. You need to be open to suggestion and this means trusting the hypnotherapist. I interviewed 2 before selecting the one I felt comfortable with. It helps if you are a strong visualizer. What is happening is that the suggestions are made to your subconscious and your conscious mind sort of steps out of the way to let this happen. You do not go into a mindless trance. You are aware of what is happening. You just don’
