How effective is Glivec?
The effect of Glivec depends very much on the phase of your CML. Glivec is most effective when administered in the early phase of CML – known as the chronic phase. To be effective, the daily dose of Glivec must be taken as prescribed by your Haematology Consultant. • In the chronic phase, nearly all patients (93 out of every 100) respond to therapy. • In the accelerated phase, 70% of patients respond to therapy. • In the blast phase, 30% of patients respond to therapy. A ‘response to therapy’ means that Glivec has managed to slow down the production of white blood cells.
