Studies are inconclusive at this point and more data is required to establish the connection of (or lack of) DR4/subtypes in Afro-Americans. The kits are useful for any ethnic population in which RA is associated with the “shared epitope”, DR1, DR14 or DR4 and subtypes (i.e. Caucasians, North American Indians and Orientals).
