How effective are Norplant implants?
The Norplant implant method is one of the most effective reversible contraceptives available. For every 1,000 women who use Norplant implants for a year, fewer than two will become pregnant. During the first five years of use, Norplant implants have a lower failure rate than the pill or most IUDs and the method’s efficacy can be compared to surgical sterilization. The cumulative pregnancy rate for the entire five years is 1.1 per 100 users.
