How effective are latex condoms in preventing HIV infection?
Latex condoms have been proven effective in preventing the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Studies show that when used correctly and consistently, male condoms are 98-100 percent effective against infection. Latex is a very resilient and strong material that does not allow HIV to pass through it. According to the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the female condom also offers protection against HIV and may be used when a male condom can not be used appropriately. Remember, all condoms should be stored in a dry cool place.
