How effective are birth control pills?
I’ve been on a few different pills, and was on Depo-Provera for 2 years between pills. Birth control pills are, in general, 98 – 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. But every pill is different. Some pills have higher estrogen levels in them, others you take fewer pills a month. If you’re looking to get on the pill, I suggest you speak with a doctor to weight out your options and what will be the best one to take. In my personal experiences, Ortho-Tri-Cyclen worked well if you have acne breakouts and mostly prevents pregnancy (though after being on it for almost 3 years, I got pregnant with twins). Depo-Provera was awesome, as it was effective for 3 months and you didn’t have to take a pill everyday. However, the downside to this is that I gained about 15 pounds over a 2 year period. It’s common to gain weight while on birth control, however this particular birth control women gain weight with it more compared to other types. The last 2 years I have been on Lo-Ovral generic, Lo-Ogest
