How easy would it be to port Starlink software to platform xxxx?
The Starlink software collection has already been ported to five flavours of Unix and hence is in a robust and highly portable state. If the target platform is another flavour of Unix, porting the software collection would in principle be straightforward (if the new Unix is not particularly unusual) although potentially time-consuming since the collection is quite extensive. Porting to a non-Unix operating system is considerably more difficult and an assessment of the work involved would have to be made on a case-by-case basis. If you are thinking of doing this, you should talk to the Starlink Project first, starting with the Software Librarian (ussc@star.rl.ac.uk). • What graphics package should I use in my own programs? The most popular graphics subroutine library is PGPLOT. PGPLOT is a high-level graphics package for plotting x,y plots, functions, histograms, bar charts, contour maps, and grey-scale images. Complete diagrams can be produced with a minimal number of subroutine calls,
