Hi, polymer clay is one of the easiest art materials to use. It comes in so many wonderful colours, but it can also be painted after baking with acrylic paint. To make small sculptures you can roll up some aluminum foil for the body and cover it with clay. This cuts down on the amount of clay required and the baking time. I bake 30 min. per 1/4″ thickness of clay. Check out the website below and the links to both Valentine projects and ‘millefiori canes’. That would be the ‘funky patterns’ that you refer to.
