How Earthing An Electrical Machine Helps To Prevent Getting Electrical Shocks To The Operator?
There are leakages of electrical current through the case(s) of electrical equipment whenever the equipment is connected to a source of electric current for various reasons that would take me too long to explain. If you come in contact with the case or any other metal and/or conductive parts and you are standing so that you are in contact with the earth or ground, the electric leakage current will run through your body to the earth, possibly enough to kill you. If a heavy wire is connected from the metal or conductive case directly to the earth through a metal cold water pipe that runs into the earth or a grounding rod driven into the earth, this hazard is eliminated because the electricity will take the path of least resistance (the heavy wire).
